A large merchant pulled out at 11 PM — the general manager called to say they were shutting down Australia. Caroline turned it around by recruiting that GM, Rush Kelly, who's now been with Hello Clever nearly three years leading the Singapore regional hub.

Caroline says a "really large merchants wanted to start with us," then she got an 11 PM call from a general manager on the merchant side: "we shut down Australia we don't wanna be in Australia anymore." Rather than walk away, she called the GM — Rush Kelly — the next day: "hey this is us right, come join." He started immediately and "has been like with us… nearly three years, really happy based in Singapore, our regional hub," now leading "a team of 10 people." She notes "some vcs told me that like you have Rush Kelly you don't need anyone else." Her reflection: "if I didn't call him that night he probably would gone somewhere else."
